what can i do for you?
writing + copy editing
There are very few things I love more than words. I loved the laborious task of mastering obscure vocab for the GRE, and I get separation anxiety when I spend too much time away from my copy of the AP Style Guide. I currently work in the communications department at the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT), and the bulk of my time is spent writing and editing. I work on everything from blog posts and web copy to complex, technical research reports. I'd love to put my skills to work for your business.
As the keeper of CNT's Mailchimp account, I know the platform inside and out. I've built several clean, image-heavy templates, and I've created and segmented many a list. By getting your newsletter workspace set up, I can bring some zen to your e-communication process.
Got a great report but afraid no one will read it? Fear not! Even the most dense, technical writing can become more engaging in a pretty package. Attractive reports also lend credibility and gravitas to the work within. I laid out the climate plan below for Citizens' Greener Evanston, and I'd love to work the same magic on your Word Docs.
At Northwestern, I took classes on sound design and audio documentary production, and I've used those recording and editing skills for the National Park Service and the Evanston Interreligious Sustainability Circle. If you've always wanted to add podcasting to your list of accomplishments, I can help make that happen.
Video production + editing
I've been lucky enough to put my film degree to use for some amazing organizations. I've made videos for Design for America, Carematix, Artistic Circles, Deeva Dance Troupe, and the National Park Service. I also made an environmental justice documentary about a waste transfer station that was screened throughout the community of Evanston, IL (the home of the waste transfer station in question).
One of my proudest accomplishments in the two years I've been part of CNT's communications department was spearheading the redesign of our PowerPoint template. Our fabulous graphic designer and I created a new template with an image-heavy design to help people understand our complex research and policy work. We've gotten great feedback both internally and externally (and people don't usually go out of their way to compliment PowerPoint presentations...).
You don't need me to tell you how essential a clean, easily navigable website is to building a successful business. But I also know how daunting it can be to make that happen. Using the Squarespace and Wordpress platforms, I've built pages and whole sites (including this one!) for a variety of organizations, including CNT, Citizens' Greener Evanston, Design for America, and Green Bay Trail Dentistry.
My last quarter of college, I suspended my senioritis and took an animation class. My final product was the animation below, which I ended up including in the aforementioned garbage dump doc. If you're expecting Pixar, I can't help you (yet), but I can make clean, simple animations like the one below.
